Please share a memory of Hugh to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

It is with sadness that the family of Hugh Philpott announce his passing that occurred at his home on Tuesday, September 30, 2025.

Hugh was born in Glace Bay, N.S., on July 15, 1933. He is survived by his son, John (Cathy), and his daughter, Kathryn (Kent), and his devoted dog, Maggie.  His three granddaughters, Karen (Brad), Lori (Nick) and Susan, were all an important part of his life.

Hugh was predeceased by his wife, Reta, and by his parents, Hugh and Flora (Kerr) and his sister Catherine Meddins.

Hugh began his banking career at the Royal Bank in Glace Bay. After working in six provinces, including as Regional Manager, N.B., and Vice President in Saskatchewan, he retired in 1993. He then returned to New Brunswick. He was very active in all the communities where he worked. Hugh was a 60-year member of Tyrian Youth Masonic Lodge in Glace Bay, as well as past Principal of Westmount Chapter in Montreal, past President of the Cornwall, ON Shrine Club, past President of the Fredericton Shrine Club, and an active member of Karnak Shriners in Montreal and Luxor Shriners in Fredericton. Also, he was a member of RoJ since 1974.

Hunting, fishing, gardening, skiing and woodworking were some of the activities he enjoyed, and his workshop was a place where Hugh spent many hours. Daily walks with his dog were an important part of his schedule.

The United Church was very important in his life, and since retiring, Hugh spent 15 years as president, Keswick Ridge official Board.

At Hugh’s request, there will be no visitation. A memorial service will be held on Thursday, October 9, 2025, at 2pm from the Keswick Ridge United Church, with Rev. Richard Bowley officiating, followed by a reception.  Interment will be held at Forest Haven Memorial Gardens, Sydney, N.S, at a later date.

Thank you to staff at Ste Anne's Court, and Elder Dog volunteers, Madison and Catherine.

Memorial donations may be made to Keswick Ridge United Church, or Shriners Hospital, Montreal, or Elder Dog, or to a charity of the donor’s choice.
