Obituary of Michael David Howells

The passing of Michael “Mike” David Howells of Fredericton, NB, husband of the late Theresa (Anson) Howells, occurred on Thursday, September 18, 2025, at Hospice House Fredericton. Born on October 17, 1957, in Fredericton, NB, he was the son of the late Clarence and Romona (Higgins) Howells.

Mike worked as a chef and had a true love for cooking. He enjoyed preparing meals not only in his career but also for family and friends, always finding joy in gathering people around the table. Known for his quiet kindness, generosity, and sense of humor, Mike was deeply devoted to his family. Following the passing of his sister, he lovingly cared for his mother, ensuring she was supported and comforted until her own passing in July. Even during his own time at hospice, his thoughtful nature showed through in small ways, often wishing he could share what he had with other patients around him.

Mike is survived by his children, Nicholas Howells, Jessica Howells, and Mindy Howells; many close nieces and nephews; as well as dear friends Leonard and Margaret Aubie and Cecilia Sangster, who were like family to him.

In addition to his parents, Mike was predeceased by his siblings, Sharon Martin, Ricky Howells, and Geraldine Kitt; and by two of his children, Terry Howells and Matthew Howells.

The family would like to extend their heartfelt thanks to Realtor Mary Carney for her kindness and guidance in helping Romona and Michael with the sale of their home during their transition to hospice care. They would also like to express deep gratitude to the dedicated hospice nurses and volunteer staff whose compassion and support provided comfort and peace over the last few months.

A graveside service will take place in Fredericton Rural Cemetery Extension, Woodstock Road, Fredericton, NB, on Thursday, September 25, 2025 at 11 am. For those who wish, remembrances may be made to the charity of the donor’s choice. Personal condolences may be offered through www.yorkfh.com
