Forever Loved, Never Forgotten

Marlene “Marnie” Marie (Nielsen)

1940-2025

Sadly, the family of Marnie Nielsen announce her passing on September 27, 2025. Born in Havelock, NB she was the daughter of Mont James Thorne and Hazel Clarke Thorne. Upon graduation from Havelock Consolidated High School in 1958. She attended Teachers College, Fredericton studying Home Economics. She taught in Florenceville, NB for 4 years before raising her family in Plaster Rock, Saint John, Regina, Ottawa and Fredericton where she remained. She served for 10 years with government of New Brunswick, department of Social Services.

Upon retiring she devoted her time to volunteer work at Dr. Everett Chalmers Hospital, to her beloved gardens and to travel with her best friend, Vivienne and others to places far and wide.

Those left to mourn her passing are her son, Paul Nielsen (Valerie), sisters, Sheila Kendall (Ray) and Lois Thorne (Joanne) as well as many close friends whom she cherished.

Besides her parents she was predeceased by her daughter Kathryn Anne Nielsen.

Arrangements are in care of York Funeral Home.

In loving memory, donations may be made to the Alzheimer’s society or a charity of the donor’s choice.

In Memory of Marnie a Memorial Service will be held at York Funeral Home, 302 Brookside Drive, Fredericton on Friday, October 3, 2025 at 2 p.m. A private family interment will happen at Greenhill Cemetery in Havelock at a later date.
