It is with great sadness that the family of Betty Jean (Redden) Eidt announces her passing on Saturday, September 13, 2025, at Windsor Court Retirement Residence in Fredericton, NB.
Born in New Minas, NS, on November 5, 1931, Betty was the daughter of the late Edward and Ruth (Higgins) Redden. She grew up in New Minas with her close-knit sisters, Reta and Eva.
Betty was predeceased by her beloved husband, Douglas Eidt, and her sister Reta. She is survived by her five sons: Dan (Helen), David (Andrea), Bobby (Maggie), Chris (Lori), and Matthew (Lyndsay); her cherished grandchildren and great-grandchildren, who were an important part of her life; her sister Eva Wallace; and several nieces and nephews.
After graduating, Betty worked in administration for a local New Minas business. Following her marriage to Doug, she aspired to have two boys and two girls. While the result was five boys—each uniquely challenging in their own way—Betty and Doug raised a loving and active family, guided by strong values and mutual respect.
Betty had many interests. She enjoyed sewing, reading, quilting, gardening, and spending time at the family camp on Oromocto Lake. She loved family gatherings and was actively involved with the Keswick Ridge United Church. Betty also contributed to “The Keswick Exchange” community newsletter alongside other dedicated women in the area. She worked occasionally in administrative support at the Canadian Forestry Research Centre near UNB.
A lifelong lover of community and friendship, Betty cherished her tea-time gatherings with a group of women in Nashwaaksis. In later years, Helen Sabastian remained a particularly close and meaningful friend until Helen's passing in 2016.
Betty and Doug shared a love of travel, exploring Canada, the Atlantic provinces, and Europe. One of the family’s most memorable adventures was living in Ibadan, Nigeria, for 17 months around 1961, including a remarkable two-week journey through Nigeria’s diverse landscapes—from tropical and temperate forests to savannah and desert.
The family is deeply grateful to the staff and management at Windsor Court for their exceptional and compassionate care, especially in Betty’s final days. Your kindness will never be forgotten. Sincere thanks also to the friends and relatives who visited or called her over the years.
A Celebration of Life will be held at York Funeral Home’s T. Gordon MacLeod Memorial Chapel on Sunday, September 21, 2025, at 2:00 p.m., with Rev. Gneid Lackey officiating.
