Obituary of William Gordon Astle

The passing of William “Bill” Gordon Astle of Fredericton, NB, beloved husband of Sylvia  Jeanette  (MacKinnon) Astle, occurred on Thursday, September 11, 2025 at Hospice Fredericton. Born on June 2, 1942 in Astle, NB, he was the son of the late Charles Leonard "Tom" and Eva Irene (Hunter) Astle.

In addition to his loving wife of 59 years, Bill is survived by his daughter, Lisa Astle-Stairs (Matt Stairs); three granddaughters, Nicole Sylvia Stairs (Tyler Holland), Alicia Danielle-Helen Stairs, and Chandler Madison Stairs (Alex Cincurak), all of Fredericton, NB; and two great-granddaughters, Harper and Harley; sister, Jeanne Black (Terry Black) of Fredericton, NB; brother, Reggie Astle (Nora) of Astle, NB; sisters-in-law, Judy Astle of Astle, NB, Diane Astle of Boiestown, NB, and Mavis Clarkson (late Gordon Clarkson) of Tay Creek, NB; brother-in-law, Fred Johnston of Durham Bridge, NB; as well as several nieces and nephews.

Besides his parent, Bill was predeceased by his brothers, Kendall Astle, Tommy Astle (late June Astle), and Duane Astle; sister, Shirley Johnston; and his in-laws, Garnet and Helen MacKinnon.

A graveside service will take place in Stirling United Church Cemetery, Tay Creek, NB on Tuesday, September 16, 2025 at 2 pm with Pastor Roger Mitchell officiating. For those who wish, remembrances may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society or donor’s choice. Personal condolences may be offered through www.yorkfh.com
