Obituary of Stewart William MacPherson

It is with great sadness that the family of Stewart William MacPherson, beloved husband of Christine MacPherson, announces his passing on Tuesday, August 26, 2025, at the Dr. Everett Chalmers Regional Hospital in Fredericton, NB. Born in Moncton on January 3, 1945, Stewart was the son of the late William and Sarah (McKenna) MacPherson.

Stewart will be fondly remembered for his deep commitment to his community. He served as President of the Fredericton Youth Hockey Association (FYHA), coached baseball, and was actively involved in his church. He generously volunteered at numerous local events, including curling, hockey, and golf tournaments, and was honoured to receive the Paul Harris Fellowship Award. In his personal time, he enjoyed golfing, spending winters in Myrtle Beach, and cherished time with his family and friends always quick to tease or joke with them. Stewart had a dedicated career with NB Power that spanned over 37 years. While working in Bathurst, he met the love of his life, Christine, united by their shared passion for hockey a bond that continued as they spent countless hours at many a rink watching their boys play the sport. They married on September 20, 1969, and would have celebrated 56 years of marriage this year.

In addition to his loving wife, Stewart is survived by their three sons: Wade (Jennifer), Donald, and Kevin (Michelle); grandchildren: Jessica (Troy), Laura (Kyle), Dax (Alyssa), Drew (Jalen), Jackson, Charlee, and Sam; and great-grandchildren: Zachary, Bowen, Bryce, Calla and Krew; brother-in-law, Roger (Geraldine). He is also survived by several nephews and nieces.

Stewart was predeceased by his brothers, Bruce MacPherson (late Wanda) and Fred McKenna; his sister, Nell Boone; and sister-in-law, Connie Boucher.

A Celebration of Life will be held at York Funeral Home’s T. Gordon MacLeod Memorial Chapel, 302 Brookside Drive, Fredericton, NB, on Sunday, August 31, 2025, at 2 pm with Pastor Darrell Powers officiating.
