Laurie Flinn

Obituary of Laurie John Flinn

Please share a memory of Laurie to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

It is with heavy hearts that the family announce the sudden and unexpected passing of Laurie John Flinn of Fredericton, NB, at home on Thursday, August 14, 2025.

The son of the late Lawrence and Helen (Fullarton) Flinn of Marysville, NB, Laurie was born on January 4, 1946, in Fredericton, and was the second of eight siblings, which included his three brothers and four sisters.

Laurie is survived by his wife of 48 years, Sandra; sons, Shawn Michael Cain (the late Trish), of Grand Cayman Island, Cayman Islands, British West Indies, and Laurie Tyson Flinn (Dria McPhee) of Fredericton; wonderful granddaughters, Madison and Olivia Whitaker-Cain, both of Grand Cayman, and very importantly, grand dogs Tully and Joey, and grand kitty, Fleur.

Laurie is further survived by his siblings and their families: Nancy Flinn (the late Walter), Gary Flinn (Alice), Bill Flinn (the late Debbie), Bobby Marshall (the late Ruth), Kay Hanson (Dave Long), Joyce Harvey, Helen Marie McDade (the late Gary), brother-in-law, Brian Stairs, his aunts Mavis Cater (Max) and Shirley Fullarton, and many nieces and nephews.

A carpenter by trade, Laurie owned and operated Flinn Construction Ltd, for over 35 years.  Known for his attention to detail, well built homes, and excellent renovations, Laurie’s reputation in the industry was that of quality.  Laurie worked hard his whole life, and was fortunate to have formed long friendships with Dave Groves, Ed Stairs, and Willie Breau (deceased).  Laurie had lots of laughs during “Meetings” at the Devon Tim Horton’s with the boys and enjoyed his years at the camp with Sandra, the Browns and the Blacks, at Green Acres.

His sons’ biggest fan, he and Sandra travelled to every game they could, including events in Alberta, Ontario, Quebec, throughout Atlantic Canada, and even as far as Füssen, Germany.

Laurie fondly remembered his years growing up in Napadogen, NB, roaming the woods, and railways with his brothers. Oh, the stories those boys could tell!

Always quick with a joke or a laugh, Laurie loved tinkering in his garage and helping others, and his generosity of spirit was eclipsed only by the love he had for his family, who will miss him beyond measure.

Sandra, Shawn and Tyson wish to thank Adam Moore of Fed/Ex, the first responders, his attending physician Dr. Daley, social worker Crystal Hicks, and a special thanks to Joe and Angela Crummey for their efforts, kindness and support during the events of Thursday August 14th.

Celebration of Laurie’s life will take place at Willie O'Ree Place (605 Cliffe St, Fredericton) on Thursday August 21, 2025, from 6:00pm to 8:00pm. Interment will take place at the Sunny Bank Cemetery at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, donations in Laurie’s memory may be made to the Brendon Oreto Foundation, the SPCA, or a charity of the donor’s choice.  Personal condolences may be offered through www.yorkfh.com.
