Obituary of Donald Edison Bird

It is with heavy hearts that the family of Donald Edison Bird of Burtts Corner, NB, announce his passing at his home on Thursday, August 7, 2025. He was the beloved husband of the late Helen A. (Hanson) Bird. Born in Birdton, NB, Donald was the son of the late Winslow and Edna (Colburn) Bird. Donald worked as the Maintenance Supervisor at St. Anne’s Woodland, formerly Valley Forest Products, and was a proud and dedicated employee. He was also a committed 47-year member of the Burtts Corner Lions Club. Donald had a deep love for the outdoors and enjoyed hunting, fishing, and spending time working in his woodlot.

He will be lovingly remembered by his children, Jeffrey Bird of Burtts Corner, Jamie and Kelley (Flowers) Bird of Keswick Ridge, Kimberly Farkas (John) of Fredericton, and Donna Richard (Armand) of Cambridge-Narrows. He is also survived by his grandchildren, Shane and Angela (Foss) Hawkins, Greggory McKeil, Brittney McKeil, Belle Bird, and Noah Bird; great-grandchildren, Cody Hawkins, Claire Hawkins, and Malachi McKeil; brother, Gordon Bird (late Jan); sisters-in-law, Alice Bird and Mary Bird; as well as several nieces, nephews, and extended family.

In addition to his wife and parents, Donald was predeceased by his brothers, Willis (late Joyce), William, and Dale; sister, Jean Sliming (late Jack); and his best friend, Eric Morgan.

The family would like to extend heartfelt thanks to all who have supported them during this time. A special thank you to Ashley Irving, Donald’s dedicated caregiver, for the continuous kindness and compassion and to Susan Booker, a cherished friend and fellow Lions Club member, for her steadfast friendship and support.

Visitation will be held at York Funeral Home, 302 Brookside Drive, Fredericton, NB on Sunday, August 10, 2025, from 6 – 8 pm. A memorial service celebrating Donald’s life will take place in York Funeral Home’s T. Gordon MacLeod Memorial Chapel the following day at 2 pm with Pastor Dave Wellwood officiating. Honourary Pallbearers are Shane Hawkins, Cody Hawkins, Greggory McKeil, Noah Bird, Bill Bird, and Ed Gill. Interment will immediately follow the service at the Burtts Corner Community Cemetery and all are welcome to join the family for reception at the Burtts Corner Baptist Church, 1034 Route 104, Burtts Corner, NB. For those who wish, donations in Donald’s memory may be made to the New Brunswick Heart and Stroke Foundation, the New Brunswick Lung Association, the Burtts Corner Lions Club, or a charity of the donor’s choice.
