Obituary of Jo-Anne Mary Hemming
The passing of Jo-Anne Mary Hemming of New Maryland, NB, occurred on July 29, 2025 at Hospice Fredericton. Born on June 16, 1942 in Moose Jaw, SK, she was the daughter of the late Josephine Mary (Cox) and Derrick James Freeman.
Jo-Anne is survived by her loving children, Michael Hemming (Laura Lee), Stephen Hemming, Diane MacLeod (John O'Toole) and Doug Hemming (Roxanne); grandchildren, Cindy (Tim), Katie (Mark), Sean, Derrick (Marie-Ève), Lennon, Tommy (Chelsee), Kayla, Dougie, Megan (Darren), Doug (Felicia), and Shannen (Brandon); many great grandchildren; brother, Brian Freeman (Chris); sister-in-law: Betty Freeman; nieces, Louise (Michael), Karen (Trevor) and Vicki (Robin); nephew, Jim (Kim); several great nieces and a great nephew. In addition to her parents, Jo-Anne was predeceased by her brother, Richard Freeman.
Jo-Anne’s world revolved around her family; there was never a moment where her family couldn’t just drop-in and within minutes have a tea and a snack in hand and you could hear playing cards being shuffled. More than anything she enjoyed watching her grandchildren then great grandchildren run around laughing, squealing and playing.
She had a deep love for writing, especially creative non-fiction and poetry. A member of the Capital Writers group, she published several works and cherished the writing community. She was also passionate about researching and sharing her family’s history and stories, preserving its rich legacy.
At Jo-Anne's request there will be no services. For those who wish, remembrances may be made to Fredericton Hospice or a charity of the donor’s choice. Personal condolences may be offered through www.yorkfh.com
