Obituary of Romona Yvonne Howells

Please share a memory of Romona to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

It is with great sadness the family of Romona Yvonne Howells (Higgins) “Mona” wife of the late Clarence Howells announce her passing on Wednesday, July 23, 2025 at Hospice Fredericton. Born on November 25, 1931 in Chipman, NB, she was the daughter of the late Lee and Theresa (Wield) Higgins. Romona was a hard worker, spending many years cleaning at Hartt Shoe Factory and later with Duffy and Lynch Cleaning. At home, she found joy in the simple things—curling up with a good book, knitting, caring for her flowers, and never missing a good game of bingo.

Romona is lovingly remembered by her son, Michael Howells of Fredericton, NB; twelve grandchildren; one step-granddaughter; several great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren and nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by her husband, Clarence; her daughters, Sharon Martin and Geraldine Kitt; her sons, Eric Lee “Ricky” Howells and an infant son; her brothers, Edward and Robert Higgins; and her sister, Roberta Dassett.

A memorial service will be held at York Funeral Home’s T. Gordon MacLeod Memorial Chapel, 302 Brookside Drive, Fredericton, NB on Saturday, July 26, 2025 at 11 am. Interment will follow in the Fredericton Rural Cemetery Extension. For those who wish, donations in Romona’s memory may be made to The Leprosy Mission Canada or to a charity of the donor’s choice.
