Obituary of Elizabeth Rice

Rice, Blanche Elizabeth

April 2, 1943 – June 30, 2025

It's with heavy hearts that the family of Blanche “Elizabeth” Rice of Fredericton, New Brunswick announces her passing which occurred on June 30, 2025, at Dr. Everett Chalmers Regional Hospital. Born on April 2, 1943, in Fredericton, New Brunswick, she was the daughter of the late Blanche (Thorpe) Harris and the late Reid Quartmermain.

Elizabeth dedicated 35 years of her life to nursing after graduating from The Victoria Public hospital in 1964. Her compassion and strength let a lasting mark on those she cared for. Outside of her profession, she found immense joy in being outside and gardening, proudly serving as a member of the Fredericton Gardening Club. She eagerly boarded countless garden tours, never hesitating to chase beauty where ever it bloomed. You could always guarantee that upon returning, she would share stories and many photos of the vibrant flowers she discovered.

Her garden was her sanctuary, a place where her spirit thrived. But above all, Elizabeth loved her family and friends endlessly. Her heart was fullest when she was on the sidelines at the ball field, where she spent countless hours cheering on her children and grandchildren, celebrating every swing and pitch. Her warm, joy and unwavering loyalty and love will be dearly missed by everyone who knew her.

Elizabeth will be lovingly remembered by her sons Peter Rice and Andrew Rice (Heather); sister Margaret Hogg; brother Arthur Quartmermain (Stella); step-brother James Harris; sisters-in-law Marlyn Chenard and Ann Quartmermain; brother-in-law Craig Sturgeon (Monica); grandchildren, Tyron (Jessica), Thane (Grace), Tyler (Nicole), Dylan (Kaleigh), Caleb, Taylor, and Tori; great grandsons Jace and Asher; along with many nieces and nephews.

Besides her parents, she was predeceased by her beloved husband Charles Rice; brother Walter Quartmermain; sister-in-law Gloria DeWolfe; and her brothers-in-law Donald Hogg and Wayne Chenard

Arrangements are under the care of York Funeral Home, 302 Brookside Drive, Fredericton where a Celebration of Life is to be held at The Drive Baptist Church,150 Greenwood Dr, Fredericton, NB on Saturday, July 5^th, 2025, at 11:00 AM. Interment will take place in Sunny Bank Cemetery following the service. For those who wish, donations may be made to Heart and Stroke Foundation.
