Bessie “Betty” Mae Dickieson May 21, 1935 – June 26, 2025
It is with great sadness that we announce the sudden passing of Bessie “Betty” Mae Dickieson of Pleasant Valley, NB, on June 26, 2025, at the Dr. Everett Chalmers Regional Hospital. She was 90 years old.
Born on May 21, 1935, to James and Nellie (Willis) Ross, Betty graduated from Stanley High School and went on to work at the Royal Bank in Fredericton. She met her sweetheart, Calvin Dickieson, at a dance in Durham, and they were married in the fall of 1954. Betty later left her banking career to dedicate herself fully to her role as a mother and homemaker.
A woman of many talents, Betty was a beloved babysitter, square dancer, gardener, cook, bird watcher, taxi driver, quilter, and a self-taught seamstress who lovingly created numerous wedding and prom dresses over the years.
Her faith was a cornerstone of her life. Betty was a devoted member of the United Church of Canada and a lifetime member of the United Church Women (UCW), actively involved in her home church in Taymouth for many years.
Betty had a quiet wit and a timeless charm that made everyone feel at home in her presence. No matter the conversation, whether lighthearted or serious, she had a knack for throwing in her signature phrase: “Well… this is it.” Even though this is it for her time here on earth, we take comfort in knowing she is now at peace, reunited in heaven with her beloved husband, Calvin, and dear son, Allen.
She is survived by her son, Brian (Julia) of Oakville, ON; daughters, Helen at home and Donna (Germain) of Estevan, SK; seven grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild. She is also survived by her sisters: Alice Cameron of Miramichi, NB; Pearle Fisher (Ivan) of Medicine Hat, AB; and Mary Hossack (Glen) of Fredericton, NB. Many nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews also mourn her passing.
She is lovingly remembered by her former daughters-in-law, Theresa Dickieson and Carla Connors, as well as by special family friends: Carl & Sheila Munn, Nicholas Munn, Royce VanHorne, Monica Caissie, Debbie & Wayne MacKinnon, and her great friend Carol Anderson.
Betty was predeceased by her husband, Calvin; her son, Allen; her parents, James and Nellie Ross; her brothers, Donnie and David; and brother in law, Charles Cameron
Visitation will take place at York Funeral Home, 302 Brookside Drive, Fredericton, NB, on Sunday, June 29, 2025, from 2:00–4:00 p.m. and 7:00–9:00 p.m. A funeral service will be
