Obituary of David King Loukes
The family of David King Loukes is saddened to announce his passing on June 20th, 2025, at the DECH in Fredericton.
David the son of Nancy Crandall King and John Douglas Loukes, was born in Chesterfield, England on May 21, 1947. He was the loving and devoted husband to his wife Judy and proud father of his three children Keith (Jay), Geoff (Kelly), Stefanie (Kate) and the best papa ever to his 5 grandchildren Jacie, Kolby, Claire, Sigi and Charlotte whom he adored. He was also a faithful friend and loving uncle to many.
David attended UNB where he earned a Bachelor and Masters degree in Civil Engineering. A pioneer in the field of Geomatics, he played a key role in developing and implementing the first computer systems for the Department of Transportation and Geomatics Information Systems for the province of New Brunswick. He was globally respected in the field of Geomatics and as a Consultant worked with Transportation Departments around the world.
David’s family will remember him for his unwavering loyalty and support. He was always front row centre at his children’s concerts, sports games and Ceremonies. He was quick to give a hug, tell a dad joke, or a “Dave joke”, loved his nightly ritual of baileys and Lindt Chocolate balls (Lindy balls). He knew how to fold a fitted sheet like no one else and was always available for a blue jays game. He was the first person in the basement ready to play with his grandkids. Whether that was having his face painted, or donning a wig and playing dress up. He was ready for whatever fun was in store. The twinkle in his eye always shone bright and although he could be a man of few words, the love he felt for his family was evident in everything he did.
David’s other passion in life was baseball. His love for the sport started at an early age and carried throughout his life. He was instrumental in developing the Minor League Baseball Association of New Maryland. He spent many years coaching, including all of his children from early stages to adulthood.
David was loved and respected by family and friends and will be greatly missed.
There will be a Celebration of Life, 4:00 PM, July 9, 2025 at the Delta Hotel, Fredericton. In lieu of flowers, donations in David’s memory may be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation. Personal condolences may be offered through www.yorkfh.com
