Obituary of Gloria Jean MacDonald

It is with great sadness and heavy hearts that we announce the peaceful passing of our beloved wife and mother Gloria Jean MacDonald (Tomilson) on June 20, 2025. She was surrounded by her loving family at the Dr Everett Chalmers Hospital.

She was born in Charlottetown, Prince Edward Island on November 26, 1943 and after losing her mother at a very young age her father returned to Fredericton with her and her brother. Gloria had a wonderful childhood growing up with her grandmother on Needham St.

Gloria loved the city of Fredericton.

Gloria attended Albert St and George St schools before graduating from Business College here in Fredericton. After graduating, she went to work in the office at the Hart Shoe Factory on York St. She then worked for the department of health at the Centennial Building; followed by Natural Resources at the Hugh John Flemming Forestry Center.

Gloria lived a Christian life attending Saint Paul’s United Church and Argyle St Pentecostal Church where she met her husband Orlie MacDonald and married him June 6, 61 years ago.

Gloria loved to travel; she went on many trips which included cruises and all-inclusive resorts in the Caribbean. Orlie & Gloria traveled to Bluegrass Festivals with their trailer all across the Maritimes and the Eastern Seaboard. She loved to float in the ocean and swimming at the YMCA where she was a member for many many years, she also enjoyed painting and quilting classes.

Gloria loved her family and her pets, they meant everything to her.

Gloria is survived by her loving husband Orlie William MacDonald; daughters Paula Jean MacDonald, Julie Ann MacDonald and son Robert Keith MacDonald; along with sister-in-law Angard Crnac, niece and nephew Anette Nicole Tomilson and David Keith Tomilson.

Besides her parents Sidney Keith Mullen Tomilson and Velma Jean Tomilson (Mowatt), Gloria was predeceased by her brother Donald Keith Tomilson.
