Obituary of Michael Edwin Wood

We have been lucky.

We have been lucky to understand that it’s not the exterior but the heart of gold which matters.

We’ve been lucky to learn that it’s not important he broke the machine, but that he was just trying to help.

We’ve been lucky to see how a son could devote so much to helping his mother.

We’ve been lucky to witness how many people cherished Michael as he was.

And because of all that, we will choose to remember him for the goodness that was inside him.

Survived by his mother Lillian, siblings Gail Palmer (Barry), Stephen (Barb) and Bradley (Tanya), as well as his daughter Kadie. Predeceased by his father Vance, and brothers Hal (Sheila) and Kelvin (Esther).

Thank you to home care workers Sherry, Jeanette and the team from Integrity for helping Michael live independently for so many years. You made him laugh, you made him supper, and treated him with dignity. Thank you also to Dr. Gonzalez, Michael’s family physician; Dr. Rambaran for your patience and kindness in Michael’s final days; and the staff of the ER and 4 West of the MRH for demonstrating humanity in such difficult circumstances.

A special thank you to Billy Stewart for finding jobs for Michael that gave him a sense of purpose (even though sometimes he would stop to smoke his pipe instead of working), for fixing the inevitable, and for coming to his rescue, day or night!

Visitation at Miramichi Valley Funeral Home, 7681 Route 8, New Bandon on Monday, June 16 from 2:00 to 4:00 with service to follow. Internment will be at the Ludlow Baptist Cemetery with a reception to follow at the Boiestown Lions Club. In Michael’s memory, the family would appreciate donations to the Ludlow Baptist Cemetery Fund, Central NB Self Help, or Miramichi Regional Hospital Foundation.
