COLLINS, Bertha May April 27, 1927- June 9, 2025

It is with broken hearts that we announce the passing of our beloved mother peacefully, surrounded by her loving family on June 9, 2025 at the Dr. Everett Chalmers Regional Hospital, Fredericton, NB.  She was the daughter of the late Earl and Margaret Calhoun (nee Stewart).  Loving wife of the late William (Bill) Percy Collins.  Doting Mother to Cheryl Morgan (Lloyd d.2009), Cindy, Stephen, Michael and Keith (d.2004), "Gram" to Jennifer Palmer (Jeremy), Jason Morgan (Melissa), Kelsie Burns and Nathan Collins (Ashley).  " Great Gram and Mimi" to Andrew and Ryan Palmer, Lily and Jacob Morgan, Sadie, Noah, Avah and Hunter Baskin, Violet Collins and baby boy Collins on the way. Sister to Sterling Calhoun, half siblings Laura Saunders and Blair Calhoun, Favorite Aunt to several nieces and nephews and Friend to many.

At the age of six, following the death of her Mother, Mom went to live with Leah Miner (Bedford) along with cousins Perry and Murray Miner and Willard, Harold and Arthur Grear all of whom predeceased her.  She was also predeceased by her sisters Flora Stewart and Noreen Munn, brothers Fenton, Ralph and Weldon Calhoun.

Mom attended Pond's Business College in the early forties and was first employed in the office at Hart Boot and Shoe in Fredericton.  She later moved to Toronto in the mid-fifties where she married Dad and gave birth to Cheryl, returned to NB and raised four more children. Though Mom later returned to work at Imperial Oil for Ron and Lynwood Evans and later the Faralaine Home her true calling and passion was being everybody's 'MOM". She was a Member of Wilmot United Church and a Life Member of the Royal Canadian Legion Ladies Auxiliary.  Always willing to lend a helping hand, she knitted mittens, socks and sweaters for the Salvation Army as well as everyone else. She canvassed for the Canadian Cancer Society and the Heart and Stroke Foundation.

The family expresses thanks to the many caregivers over the past years as well as Dr. Stephen Pond, Stacey and all of the nurses at Extra Mural, Connie Gillis at Sobeys Pharmacy whose caring and support made it possible for Mom to remain in her home.  Special thanks to Belinda Schatz Hovey and Pauline Tremble. Also thanks to the staff of Emergency and 4SW during her final days.

Visitation will be held at York Funeral Home, 302 Brookside Drive on Saturday, June 14, 2025 from 3-6 pm.  A private graveside service officiated by Rev. Ellen Bearisto will be held.  Remembrances may be made to the Wilmot United Church Outreach Program, 473 King Street, Fredericton, NB E3b 1E5 or the charity of the donor’s choice.  Personal condolences may be offered at wwwyorkfh.com.
