The family of the late Barbara Shirley Lyons (Barb) announce her passing on May 26, 2025, at Hospice Fredericton, re-uniting her with husband Mannie & children Michael & Penny.

Survived by Sons Dale Lyons (Nan) and Rick Lyons (Margie); son-in-law Rodney Estey (Penny); Several Grandchildren, Great Grandchildren & Great Great Grandchildren; Sister Sharon Scott (Ross); Sister-in-Law Lena Palmer; Brother-in-Law Marvin Lyons (Nancy); Sisters in Law Joan Lyons (Eldon) & Wanda Lyons (Paul); as well as numerous Nieces, Nephews, Great Nieces and Nephews from both the MacLean and Lyons families, as all Family were considered as one.

Predeceased by Husband Mannie Lyons; son Michael Lyons; grandson Shawn Lyons; daughter Penny Estey; and great grandson Kyler Hunter Astle; Parents Devota (Morgan) & Murray Arbeau and Father Hugh MacLean; Brother Donald MacLean; Mother & Father-in-Law Christina and Freeman Lyons; several sisters and brothers-in-law, as well as cousins and chosen family members.

Born in North Devon to parents Devota & Hugh MacLean on December 21, 1938, Barbara was the middle child of three, Donald and Sharon complete the trio. With the loss of their brother Donald at an early age left the two sisters to journey through the majority of their lives as each others only sibling. Extremely close they spoke at least once daily most of their lives with many I love yous each call. Even in the last days Sharon got to send the love by cherished phone calls.

Barb met Mannie and the two strolled hand in hand through downtown Fredericton as he serenaded her. It didn’t take long for the couple to decide they wanted to make a life together which they did for 64 years before his passing on June 8, 2021. They started their family with son Dale, next to arrive on the scene was daughter Penny, Michael came next and then Rick completing the family. Loving & giving parents Barb & Mannie always provided their children much unconditional love and support in all areas of their lives.

Barb worked for an answering service before she and two of her friends decided to start their own business. “Personal Answering Service” whose walls have witnessed many laughs, shenanigans, but mostly deep friendship and love for each other and their co-workers. She loved knitting and made many a young man and young woman a pair of socks or mittens. She knitted right up until she entered Hospice – determined to finish that last pair of socks.

She will be missed by all who knew her kindness and love. We are grateful to have called her Mom, Sister, Nan, Nanny B, Aunt and friend and grateful for all the years of love.
