Obituary of Alice De Almeida Moreira

Please share a memory of Alice to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

Alice De Almeida Moreira was born in Viana do Castelo, Portugal, to Alzira (Almeida) and Jose Freitas on August 3, 1933. On April 30,1961, she married and after, welcomed three children. In 1976, she immigrated to Canada with her family, eventually settling in Fredericton, New Brunswick, where she built a life filled with love, tradition, and care.

She married Manuel Moreira, and together they raised three children. Her greatest pride was her family, which grew to include six grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. Alice was known for her warmth, her generosity, and her unshakeable devotion to those she loved.

Alice found joy in the simple things — her home was often filled with the comforting smells of her cooking. She also enjoyed sewing and crocheting, but perhaps nothing brought her more satisfaction than ironing — a task she turned into a labor of love.

She will be remembered for her strength, her grace, and her unwavering love. If love alone could have kept her here, she would have lived forever.

Alice leaves to mourn her husband, Manuel Moreira; her children, Chico Moreira (Paula) and Sonia Moreira; her grandchildren, Patricia (Armenio), Amanda (Jeff), Nicole (Jeffrey), Bryan (Hanshee), Shawn, and William; and her great-grandchildren, Ethan, Neah, Jackson, Evan, Avery, and her pride and joy, Gracie. She is also lovingly remembered by her siblings: Dimantino (Adalaide), Fernanda (Silva), Theresa (Fernando), and Palmeda (Victor); as well as a large circle of nieces, nephews, friends, and her two fur grandbabies, Lucy and Asher.

She was predeceased by her beloved daughter, Filomena Alves, and son-in-law, Laurent; her brother Manuel, who passed at birth; her brother Odemar (Lina); and her sister Maria (Antonio). She was also predeceased by her treasured furry companions Dusty, Lui, Tucker, and Lola.

As per her wishes, Alice will be cremated, and no formal service will be held. Her family will honour her memory privately, with the love and quiet strength she exemplified throughout her life.

She will be deeply missed and forever cherished.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Best Buddies program at Leo Hayes High School, a cause close to Alice’s heart and one that supported “Meu Amor” (my love), her grandson William. Donations can be made by cheque to “Leo Hayes High School” with a memo indicating it is for the Best Buddies Program. Personal condolences may be offered through www.yorkfh.com
