It is with great sadness that the family of Gilberte (Jill) Duguay of Penniac announce her peaceful passing at the Dr. Everett Chalmers Regional Hospital, on May 13, 2025, at the age of 74, surrounded by her family. Born in Grand Falls, on March 22, 1951, she was the daughter of the late Edouard ‘’Ti-Wood’’ and Gemma (Gagnon) Poitras.

She will be greatly missed by her common-law partner of 25 years, Michel Rivard, son Scott (Jackie) of Kentville, NS, and daughter Christyne (Shawn) Allain of Fredericton; grand-daughters Claire Duguay and Jessie Allain; grand-sons Alexandre Duguay and Max Allain; sisters and brothers Clermont (Doris) Poitras of Grand Falls, Mario (Brigitte) Poitras of Fenton, Michigan, Yolande (Rick) Burnett of White Cove, Patrick (Jacqueline) of Miramichi, Marcelle Poitras of Fredericton, Jane (Paul) McManus of Saint John and Michelle Deschênes of Saint John, as well as several nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles and cousins. She was predeceased by her beloved husband, Maurice Duguay, her parents and by brothers and sisters Carmel, Bernadette, Marie, Hermel, Joseph, Aurèle, Jean, Françoise and Danielle.

Apart from running her own translation agency, Gilberte was passionate about gardening, music, boating, camping and travelling. She excelled in capturing and photographing inspiring images, loved painting, crochet and quilting. She was kind, curious, and generous, always ready to help someone in need. She took countless trips home and abroad with her partner, children, and best friends Rita, Mirelle and Louise. But her greatest joy was to watch her grand-children’s sports achievements or simply listen to what was going on in their lives.

The family would like to express their heartfelt appreciation and thanks to the doctors, nurses and staff of the Saint John Regional Hospital Radiation/Oncology Department and the Chalmers Regional Hospital for their kind and compassionate care as well as the pharmacists and staff at PharmaChoice, Fredericton Northside, for their advice on medication use.

Visitation will take place at York Funeral Home, 302 Brookside Drive, Fredericton, on Sunday, June 1st, 2025 from 12-2 pm. A private interment will follow at Hermitage Cemetery.

A reception with friends and family to share remembrances of Gilberte and to honor her life will be held from 3-5 pm, at the Delta Hotel, Woodstock Road, Fredericton.
