Our Dear Jimmy,
It was a tremendous jolt when I received the news about your passing, especially since I was with you on May first and second. Having to come to grips with this new situation memories of the times we have been in each other’s company came flooding in. From our first meeting at FHS in the early seventies until now, lots of occasions, mischief and adventures we have shared.
On our Suzuki 185cc bikes, in the late 70’s we tackled the infamous 50Km Salmon River Road (mud bath) to get to the cottage in Rexton, where my relatives hosed us down before we could enter beyond the picket fence. That was a rugged trip. Over the years we had many gatherings at the Rexton cottage …and most of them can be remembered .
We had hobie cat sailing sessions on Grand Lake at Scotchtown which involved some competition and to this day you still owe me the million dollar bet on a race, whereby I put you in a position that assisted you in flipping your hobie (upside-down).I still vividly see you scrambling to get the high side of the tramp… to no avail. I never let you forget that one.
There were our many ski adventures at Crabbe but also in Quebec and the US along with some other good chaps that always proved to be very entertaining. Especially the hospitality outlets at Sugarloaf which we got to know quite well and they us.
We had our Chainsaw Massacre gatherings at Dawkins cottage at Grand Lake to help with some silviculture work and in which you rendered a family of flying squirrels homeless.
There were the fishing trips to Tweedie’s cabin on the Dungarvon River… which most nights did not involve much sleep but as always, entertaining.
We have spent a substantial amount of time in each other’s presence over these many years, and most of it can be remembered, but I am thankful that I was able to spend that time in your company. I could continue with more adventures but it might get embarrassing so I will just say …Jimmy you were a tremendous friend, always enjoyable and I will dearly miss you and you will always be remembered. I will always raise a glass to you on the 17th .

We were very sorry to hear of Jim’s passing so suddenly. He was a kind, soft spoken and wonderful nephew. We had many great times in Caissie Cape over the years and we will miss seeing him on the beach. We will never forget the peach schnapps and vodka party we had one summer. He was the greatest bartender in Caissie Cape! We will really miss him.
Love, Stuart and Dorothy.

I met Jim at FHS - and we played rugby together. He was built like a brick sh-- house and you didn't not want to be ionthe receiving end of one of his tackles... he was such a kind soul - he would apologize after the tackle. We went on to be room mates in St Andrews - and he was a budding chef then- always remember the great meals, Rest in peace Jim.

Shocking and so sad to hear of Jim's sudden passing. We were roommates back in the middle 70s when he was spending a couple of weeks at a time on Russian fishing trawlers and I was chartering out a twin engined aircraft. We had a lot of great times together - working on our Triumphs and "hunting" for fire wood for our furnace at Rusagonis......those 3 years out there were very memorable - the stories are still told - Bon Apetit mags all over the living room and Thanksgiving there was a blast for the lucky people invited.....Zak loved to cook and he was really good at it....he worked so hard at his restaurant in Halifax and I was very lucky to be visiting relatives in Halifax with a daughter when we were able to eat there - she still remembers it as a highlight of her "big trip" from Australia at 17 - of course, she loved Jim.....I could go on and on - so many memories and stories with this gentle man - a calming influence and a heart of gold who would help anyone out if he could.
To Jim's family: On behalf of my family here, and especially, Carly, we send our deepest sympathies. Jim will be remembered by all who ever met him and I was very lucky to be his friend.

I lived with Jim in St. Andrews for a year or two while he was studying Aquaculture. Great guy to live with as he was a great cook and insisted we keep the place neat and clean. Many was the time (after I took a shower) Jim would approach me with a straight razor in hand and quietly but firmly and politely just say to me, “Go give the rub a shave”. Rest easy Jim.
