Obituary of Ronald Arthur Ames

Please share a memory of Ronald to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Ronald Arthur Ames on Thursday May 8th, 2025, at the age of 87, a beloved grandfather, great-grandfather, dad, brother, and loving husband. Ronald leaves behind a legacy of creativity and a remarkable talent for problem-solving. He had the amazing ability to build and fix anything. Ronald, with Pat by his side for 58 years, built a life of mixed farming, tourism, and other entrepreneurial endeavours.

Ronald, Dad, Gramp, Great Gramp was always helping us to develop our own skills be it from showing us how to measure garden rows with a sledgehammer, or how to cut quilt fabric with the most amazing precision. He was always up for a 4-wheeler ride and had this uncanny power to know when a grandchild wanted a lift.

Ronald loved watching Jeopardy, keeping up with all the news and discussing anything to do with NB politics. He was a lifelong member of the NB Progressive Conservative Party, where his father Harry was an MLA for 22 years and now today his son Richard carries the Ames name as a sitting MLA.

He will be greatly missed by his family, Sons J. Richard Ames (Tammy) and Arthur R. Ames (Kathy) and daughter Catherine D. Lawrence (Beverly). Grandchildren Levi Lawrence (Kim), Travis Lawrence, Josh Lawrence (Merrilee), Zak Lawrence (Sandra), Jeremy Ames (Krista), Noah Ames (Erynn) and Kennedy Ames (Bennet). Great grandchildren Oliver, Penny, Maggie, Lilly, and Gabriel. Sister-in-Law Dianne R. Long (Gordon) of Moncton.

Ronald is also survived by family-by-choice Clare (Keith) Dunn and Barb from Integrity and by his very beloved dogs Jazz and Dolly. He was predeceased by his wife Patricia (Holyoke) Ames, parents Harry and Mae (Wilson) Ames and brother Donald Ames.

Thank you for the incredible care provided by the team at Integrity Home Health Care; Crystal, Anne, Jennifer, Barb and the many more who stepped in and provided support along the way.

Keeping with Ronald’s wishes, a graveside service for friends and family will be held at the Mactaquac Cemetery, Mactaquac, NB on Monday May 12, 2025, at 1:00pm For those who wish, remembrances may be made to the Mactaquac Cemetery Fund or a charity of one’s choice.
