Obituary of James Emerson Hanifan
With heavy hearts the family of “Jimmy” Emerson Hanifan announce his sudden passing on Monday, April 7, 2025, at York Care Center.
Born on August 1, 1942, in Blacks Harbour, New Brunswick, he was the son of the late William and Zelda (Fountain) Hanifan. Alongside of his parents, Jimmy was pre-deceased by his siblings, Murray Hanifan, Jean Little, and Gayle Melanson.
Jimmy was survived by his niece; Vicky Melanson, great niece; Lacey Melanson, and great-great niece; Madison Waugh, along with several other nieces and nephews, good friends, Fred from Saint John, Paul and his dog Fraser, Graham, Cathy, Tracey, Phillis, and Pastor Norm.
Jimmy was a simple man who enjoyed the outdoors and loved animals. Often times, a perfect visit would consist of a Tim Horton’s coffee and a cigarette with his friends, family, and fur babies outside the care home. He touched so many lives along his journey and will be greatly missed.
Thank you, to the friends and the staff at York Care Center for their love, care, compassion, and friendship they gave to Jimmy during the last chapter of his life here on earth.
There will be no visitation or service at this time. Interment will take place in Mount Hope Cemetery, Richardson, New Brunswick on Deer Island at a later date. Donations may be made to the SPCA, or to York Care Foundation. Personal condolences may be offered through www.yorkfh.com.
