It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Gordon Edward Hughes of Fredericton, NB, at the age of 79, husband of the late Dorothy (Leet), occurred on April 4, 2025 at Dr. Everett Chalmers Regional Hospital. Born on June 29, 1945 in Charlottetown, PEI, he was the son of the late Priscilla (O'Connell) and Ernest Joseph Hughes.  Gordon was a financial adviser for at least 30 years. He loved woodworking, going out to eat with friends and family, he was a supporting member of AA, and a member of the Franciscans. 

Gordon is survived by daughters, Karen Hughes of Fredericton and Christine Gallant (Collin) of PEI; sister, Anna Duffy (Charles - deceased); step-children, Joyce (Larry), Brian, Terry, and Roger; step-grandchildren, Michael Leet and Brandon Leet-MacFarlane; step great-grandchildren; as well as many nieces and nephews.
Gordon was predeceased by his first wife, Teresa; his second wife, Dorothy (Leet) Hughes; son, Greg Hughes; and siblings, Dorothy, Edna, Alfred, and Ernestine.

The family would like to thank the Shannex staff at Neill Hall, Dr. Rebecca McGinn, the staff at 4SW, Dr. Shea, nurses Jamacia and Megan in the ER, Dr. Raza and Dr. Scott Robertson. 

Visitation will take place at York Funeral Home, 302 Brookside Drive, Fredericton on Thursday, April 10, 2025 from 2 – 4 pm and 7 – 9 pm.  The funeral service will take place the following day at St. Theresa’s Catholic Church, Friday, April 11, 2025, at 2 pm, with Maria Arokiam Chinnappn officiating. Honorary pallbearers will be Kenny Duke, Gary Denning, Peggyleigh Timms-Hughes, Micheal Leet, Brandon Leet-MacFarlane, and Micheal Duffy. 

Interment will take place in St. Francis of Assisi Cemetery, Lincoln in the spring. For those who wish, remembrances may be made to a charity of the donor’s choice.  Personal condolences may be offered through www.yorkfh.com
