To Tina ,,,Leslie, Amy and Lisa...and Marylou. Johnny, Marcia, Sally and I were all so sorry to hear of Bill's passing. He was always a very special person and cousin. Johnny and I remember with great fondness the summer vacations we shared at Nano's with Bill and Marylou...hard to believe how long ago it was and yet so well remembered. Bill always seemed more like an older brother as he was always willing to listen and help when needed. We will always appreciate him being prepared to represent Linda at a very difficult time in her life and of course especially challenging for Mum. Bill was Nano's favorite or we all thought so and for good reason...he was there for his mother and for Marylou willingly taking on the role of man of the house and of course he has been there for his girls and you Tina. He will be missed by all who knew him.
With much love and affection...Your cousins...The " Toodie" Whalens.

I met Bill around 1973 when I was a naive law student and Bill was a lawyer who volunteered his time at the local legal aid clinic. I told Bill I had interviewed a client who was scheduled to go to court/ had a wonderful case and needed to be represented by a lawyer in the courtroom.
Bill agreed to represent the client on a gratuitous basis. In the courtroom we discovered the client was less than truthful. Bill spent a whole day in court for nothing!
I learned a big lesson. Bill never complained. Over the subsequent years, Bill and I would often joke about My Excellent Court Case.
Bill was a real gentleman and a good example to young people coming into the legal profession.

Dear family of Bill Matthews,
I read this obituary on the weekend & wanted to express my condolences to you & my sincere thankfulness & generosity of this man, who helped my mother , in his earlier career in the early 1970”s , to navigate a land issue successfully & ease her worries over it. He was understanding, obliging & sincere.
I remembered him 50 years + ago, that is how the impression of his work affected us.
In thankfulness & gratitude & peace to his family,

Tina we are so sorry to hear of Bill's passing. I first met Bill through the Fredericton Chamber of Commerce and later we were longtime members of a Business Round Table group in Fredericton. He provided such thoughtful and valuable advice to me and my business over the years, both as a friend and later as a lawyer. I really enjoyed every conversation I had with Bill and we were later delighted to meet you through social functions. He will be missed by all who knew him.

Tina and girls - Don and I along with our family wish to send you our condolences on the passing of Bill. We met Bill in March of 1970 when we were looking for an apartment to rent. He was a wonderful person and we knew at first sight that we would be happpy to rent from him and Tina. Their apartment was in the same building as we were renting. And 3 years later we bought our first home from him. Bill made that transaction so easy for us. He was such a friendly and jovial person and he always took time to stop and talk about our families. We are going to miss our little chats and will cherish the memories we made with you both.

Tina, we were so sorry and shocked to hear of Bill's passing. For you and your family, please accept our sincere condolences.
Bill and I knew each other for many years. We first met as "Hallway Neighbors" in the Freshman Dorm at SFX over 60 years ago. Our friendship grew years later when I sought out his services to help me with personal and business legal matters. I always found when working with Bill that no matter how serious the situation was, he could always help us find something to laugh about. He had that magical gift of making you feel better!
Please know that in this difficult time we are thinking of you.

We are so sorry for your loss. Bill was our cousin but much more. He was a great mentor to me at the earliest days of my legal journey. Bill worked at connecting all of the Whalen clan and his warm personality made our get togethers much more fun- a family reunion really got started when Bill and Tina arrived. He will be long remembered and greatly missed.

Dear Tina, Lisa, Leslie and Amy; I am sorry to hear about Bill’s passing. He was a wonderful and kind man and it was great to catch up with you both at Mom’s birthday party in September. That was always the way, either Nano’s party or a family gathering brought us together for fun and food. May you find comfort in the many happy memories and may Bill rest in peace.

We are so saddened to hear about Bill's passing. Our thoughts and prayers are with Tina and her family at this time. All of us have lost a cherished friend.
We have so many fond memories of time spent with Bill and Tina on Florida golf courses and dinners with friends. Hearing Bill's stories, which were filled with love and adventure about his children and grandchildren, was a special treat for us as we four traveled together to our dance lessons in Cape Coral.
Bill was such a caring and considerate man. His wisdom provided us with guidance that we depended on for his frank and interesting discussions. We will miss him.
Sincerely,
Joan and Stu Groom

Tina and family, so sad. It was a shock when I was told of Bill's passing. Great memories from our younger years, trips to Bocabec and St. Andrews with Helen, Franny and Judy, before our careers and families took over our lives. Occasional get togethers were lots of fun over the years. Bill's spirit will be kept alive with all the great memories we have.
