The family of Peggy Lynn Johnson announces her passing at Shannex Thomas Hall on March 12, 2025. Peggy was born in Fredericton on September 4, 1956. Peggy was predeceased by her parents Murray and Beatrice (Hanson); brothers John and Richard; sister-in-law,Tracy Crouse; nephew, Josh Crouse and special friend Mike Arnold. Peggy is survived by brothers Brian (Valerie), Myles (Linda), and Larry; sisters Connie Knorr (Harold) and Sharon Bragdon (Michael) as well as several nieces and nephews and great nieces and nephews.

Peggy Johnson was a character. She was feisty, outspoken, sometimes profane, independent, determined, and stubborn. All qualities she needed for the challenges she faced. Once you met Peggy, you never forgot her.

Peggy grew up in Hainesville, NB. On July 6, 1975, at just 18, she was struck by a car and suffered severe brain and body injuries. She wasn’t expected to survive, let alone walk again. She spent seven agonizing months in hospital and rehab. Yet, just two years later, she hitchhiked - in her wheelchair - to Moncton to a concert! In early days she loved going to the Hilltop on Friday afternoons, then to the Cosmo for Friday night - where she was once suspended for waving around the cane that she was then using.

Along the way, after earning a GED Certificate, she took a computer course. It was early in the computer world and users would often get the message “invalid command.” Peggy exploded with, “How does it know I’m an invalid!!” She eventually worked her way to a degree from St. Thomas University, of which she was very proud, and came to embrace the Roman Catholic Church.

Peggy loved Timmie’s ice caps, Starbucks, bagels, men in uniform, the number 4, and Father Monty Peters.

So; so long “Shaky Peg” as she was affectionately known. Well done.

Thank you to the staff at Parkland’s Thomas Hall where Peggy spent the last twelve months under their compassionate care, David Adams Richards who helped Peggy publish her memoir “Peggy’s Journey,” and to her many faithful friends who helped along her life’s journey.

At Peggy’s wish, there will be no service of remembrance. A private family burial of ashes will take place at a later date in Hainesville.

For those who wish, remembrances can be made to the Stan Cassidy Centre for Rehabilitation or charity of choice. Personal condolences may be offered through www.yorkfh.com
