Obituary of Harriett Patricia McNeill

It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Harriett Patricia McNeill (Stewart) on March 10th, 2025 at Hospice House, in Fredericton. Born on December 13th, 1936, in Nashwaak Bridge, NB; she was the daughter of the late Eldon and Beryl (MacKay) Stewart. Aside from her parents, Harriett is predeceased by her husband Bryan, sister Christine Hood, brother Ronald Stewart, brothers-in-law Conrad and Terry McNeill, and stepson Larry McNeill.

Harriett graduated in 1955 and immediately went to work for CIBC, where she was employed for 43 years. Harriett held several positions during her career, becoming only the 2nd female branch manager at the time, and received several accolades and awards during her distinguished career. Harriett loved her work.

Other than her career, Harriett had many other passions in her life. She was a long-standing member of the Fredericton North Rotary Club, where she held various positions including serving as the first female District Governor in 2002-2003. She travelled to international conferences and was involved in many initiatives in the community and abroad. She received several awards for her service. She was an avid swimmer and was a Member of the YMCA Masters swim club, where she swam 3 days a week for over half of her life, travelling and participating in swim meets and world championships. Her other passion was NASCAR. She was a loyal fan, watching racing regularly at home and travelling to races every year, often with her sons. She attended the Daytona 500 race over 20 times, including her first race in 1968.

Harriett is survived by her son Dale (Stephanie) of Austin Texas and Kris of Noonan; step mother-in-law Marion McNeill, brothers-in-law Laurel (Ann), Brent (Janice), Clinton (Sue), sisters-in-law Marlene Billings (Peter), Faye Webb (Mike), Marie McNeill and Carolyn McNeill, as well as several cousins, nieces and nephews.

Family and friends are invited to pay their respects and share their memories of Harriett at York funeral Home, 302 Brookside Drive, Fredericton, on Friday, March 14, 2025, from 7 to 9 PM and Saturday, March 15, 2025, from 2 to 4 PM. A Celebration of life will take place on Sunday, March 16, 2025, at Brunswick Street Baptist Church, 161 York St, Fredericton, NB at 3PM with Pastor Ross Watters officiating. A reception will follow at the Church, with interment to be held at a later date.

Donations in Harriett’s memory may be made to the Canadian Cancer society and Hospice House Fredericton. Condolence may be shared at www.yorkfh.com.
