Some people leave a mark on your heart so deep that no amount of time can fade it. My Uncle Marty was one of those people. More than just an uncle, he was like a second dad, always there, always watching out for me.
From my very first day of school, when he made sure I got there safely as he drove the school bus, to the day he taught me how to drive and pass my drivers test, and even to prom night, making sure I arrived in style, he was there for every milestone, big and small. But more than anything, it was the way his face would light up every time he saw me that made me feel truly special.
His kindness, his steady presence, and the love he gave so freely will stay with me forever. I was lucky to have him in my life, and I will miss him always. Rest easy, Uncle Marty. You were loved more than words can say.

Jaime:
Thank you all for being here today to honour and celebrate the life of our Uncle Marty. It’s hard to put into words just how much he meant to us, not just as an uncle, he was so much more. We could stand here all day and share stories about Uncle Marty because, truthfully, most of our childhood memories have him in them. If there’s one thing that stands out about Uncle Marty, it’s that he was a teacher in every sense of the word.
He used to say, “Trust Me Uncle Marty knows best,”even though, let’s be honest, sometimes Uncle Marty didn’t actually know best. But that was part of his charm.
Because he and Dad were so close, we spent a lot of time with Uncle Marty, Aunt Bev, and Chris. Some of our best memories were made on the farm.
Haying season stands out to me as a time of year when our whole family worked together and where a lot of those fond memories were cultivated. There was one year when Chris and I were about 12 that we were allowed to drive our father’s trucks around the farm. One evening Marty let me drive his new truck down to the barn while the grownups followed behind with a load of hay. With Chis and Tyler as passengers I proudly drove down to the barnyard. With the adults still far out of sight I decided I should try backing into the parking space. I ended up backing into our tack building and I believe slightly knocking it off its foundation, the truck however didn’t have a scratch. We were in the clear! We quickly ran into Grammie’s house to grab a cookie, with Chris and I giving strict instructions to Tyler to not tell any of the grown ups what had happened. While Chris and I celebrated our good luck, we looked out the window to see Tyler having a conversation with Marty and Dad, it looked serious! All three of them then proceeded to walk to the back of the truck and look at the tailgate. I thought for sure I was going to get in serious trouble, I could not have been more wrong. Uncle Marty didn’t get angry or yell, instead he was calm, and took the moment to explain why the right thing to do would have been to be truthful and forthcoming. What a gift he gave me at that moment. I was off the hook from any serious consequences and he taught me the valuable lesson of accountability and honesty.
Mallory:
We thought it was so special that our uncle got to drive us to school in his bus and then even get to go play in it when it was parked at grammie’s yard. All of us kids thought we had a special “in”, we didn’t just get to go on his bus, but we had the privilege to play in it in the evenings or on the weekend. It was a real bonus if his wintergreen peppermints were there waiting for us.
I remember in my Grade 12 year, I had my heart set on having Uncle Marty drive me to prom in a school bus. After all, he drove me on my very first day of school, so it only felt right that he’d drive me on my last. But Uncle Marty had other plans. He told me not to worry about it, that he’d take care of how I got to prom. And sure enough, on graduation day, he rolled in, not with a bus, but with a stunning Thunderbird. He was so excited about planning this surprise.
And then I can’t forget the unique way Uncle Marty decided when it was time to hay, by using my curly hair as his own personal barometer. If my hair was tight curls, it meant the hay wasn’t quite ready. If it wasn’t, then it was go-time. Forget checking the weather or moisture levels, he had me.
Morgan:
When I think of Uncle Marty, it's not one specific memory that comes to mind, but a feeling — his unwavering love, quiet comfort, and his uncle wisdom. What he gave to all of us was the greatest gift of all: a sense of belonging.
Tyler will never forget when he came to Grande Prairie to visit. He was so excited to see Marty and for him to meet Zoe. Zoe was just as excited to meet him as well. Marty looked at her just as he had looked at all of us kids growing up, with that same loving smile and look in his eyes.
Some of my most cherished memories are from recent visits home. After living out west for so long, I often worried that home might not feel like home anymore — but Uncle Marty made sure it always did. Whether it was picking us up at the airport, letting us roam the farm just like we always had, or inviting us to tag along for one of his many chores — my favourite thing was simply spending time with him on the Limekiln.
Uncle Marty kept the family tree farm going, preserving the Pinnock legacy of growing top-quality Christmas trees. Thanks to him, the Pinnock name remained well-known for its Christmas trees, just as it had for generations. Tyler remembers how for several years, Marty would hire him and Hank to sheer a few of the stands. Goofing around or sheering - we’re not really sure.
One of the most special things Uncle Marty did for us, year after year, was making sure we had a piece of home at Christmas. He would ship a Christmas tree across the country every year, just so we could have a tree from home. We know how much work it was to pull it off, and he likely had to bribe some postal workers for them to send it, but he never complained. He just did it, because that’s who he was.
Uncle Marty wasn’t just a pillar of our family; he was a pillar of the Stanley community. He did so much for so many, but we were the lucky ones, we got to call him Uncle Marty. We will miss him more than words can say, but we will carry his love and his kindness with us always. Rest easy, Uncle Marty. We love you!

I am finding it extremely hard to convey my memories and thoughts, it is all so overwhelming, so I
figured the best way for me to share what Uncle Marty meant to me is through writing a letter to him, to
let him know how important he is to me, his nephew and to the entire family.
Uncle Marty,
I wish I was giving you this letter in person, but this will have to do. I really have missed you, like I
miss the rest of the family back home. There isn’t a day that goes by that I am not thinking of someone
or something. Many of those thoughts are of you, Bev and Chris. All the cherished times growing up on
the farm in Limekiln. If you were to ask me, the Pinnock farm was a little piece of heaven on earth. It was
a safe place for a child to explore, find adventure and learn. It would be easy to say that half of my time
growing up was on the farm, where you were a constant presence. (obviously as it was your home).
I remember all the dinners and suppers at Grammies. You would effortlessly be keeping the table
conversation going. Discussing work and projects that needed to be done on the farm with dad, sharing
a funny story, asking me about hockey and always letting Grammie know how good the meal was.
I remember all the farm work with you. Climbing up into the cab of the big blue tractor with you when I
was too little to be doing anything else, sitting back behind the seat and enjoying the ride. And as I got
older getting more involved in the harder work. Rock picking the plowed fields (which was an endless job
in Limekiln), stacking hay on the trailer and loading it into the barn, strawberry picking. You gave me my
first paying job as kid, picking strawberries. You would always give me a little heck though, because I
would be eating just as many berries as I was picking. I always enjoyed doing the barn work with you and
dad. You would always tell me which barn cats I could try to pet and the mean ones to stay clear of. Then
there were the Christmas trees. For several years, you would hire Hank and I to sheer a few of the
stands. Apologies if Hank and I at times were too busy goofing around rather then focusing on sheering.
I remember how you were always up on technology, that made you the coolest uncle. I remember fondly
watching Chris and Greg Belyea playing games on your computer and felt so lucky when it was my turn
or if I got the computer for myself. You even had satellite TV. You would always tape the PPV WWF
matches and my mind was blown when you let me borrow some of the classic WWF WrestleMania’s to
watch. I got to experience Hulk Hogan body slam Andre the Giant because of you.
I thought it was so special that my uncle got to drive me to school in his bus and then even get to go play
in it when it was parked at grammies yard. All of us kids thought we had a special “in”, we didn’t just get
to go on your bus, but we had the privilege to play in it in the evenings or on the weekend. Living out all
of our child bus driving fantasies.
And I will never forget when you came to Grande Prairie to visit. I was so excited to see you and for you
to meet Zoe. I knew that you were excited to meet her as well. You looked at her just as you had looked
at all of us kids growing up, with that same loving smile and look in your eyes. Not many of my family
have had the opportunity to meet Zoe and the fact that you were able to will be something that I and
Zoe will forever cherish.
I am extremely lucky that you and dad were such close brothers, so close that having you as an uncle felt
more like having a second dad and my sisters will agree with me on that. Anytime any of us got hurt, felt
scared or uneasy, you were there to embrace us, get us back up on our feet, dust us off and encourage us
to keep going. Always with that comforting, signature smile.
Every kid that grew up in Limekiln owes a piece of what they learned because of you. The Armstrong’s,
MacFarlane’s, Belyea’s, and many more…we were all impacted in such a positive way. Personally though,
you were a pilar of my life experience in those young, impressionable years. You are a man of strong
integrity, honesty, always kind and willing to help others. A fine example of what any man should strive
to be, and I take great pride in knowing that you helped shape the man that I am today. I always thought
to myself that I would get to see you again and it hurts knowing that I will not get that chance. I haven’t
been home in 11 years and I feel like I have missed out in so much and would give anything to walk
across that yard to the barn with you, filling me in with all that I have missed and the plans you were
making. I love you Uncle Marty, rest easy and until we meet again.
Your Nephew, Tyler.

I’m so grateful to have known Marty and family from the time my family moved to Stanley. He called me up and asked if I would pick strawberries; he called me back to plant and prep the fields. It was hard work, but I enjoyed the hearty homemade lunch each day. I appreciated it when he thought of me when I was in university and put my name in with DOT ( DTI) for the summer. He was an easy going bus driver for those of us on sports teams, putting up with the rowdiness of the boys and girls basketball teams especially. My heartfelt condolences to Bev, Chris and family. Dear Bev, Chris and family,
Marty was one of the first people we met when we moved to Stanley in 1984. Raylene remembers the time she borrowed his lawn tractor and accidentally lost the muffler (and ran over it several times). Marty just shook his head and laughed it off. He was very kind and had a great sense of humour. He will be missed. We are thinking of you all at this difficult time.

I’ll always remember Bev looking out her classroom window as the busses rolled in, especially a certain bus driven by Marty.
Bev used to visit our house a lot, then a few weeks later after realizing she was fond of Marty, Bob and I decided to be match makers and hook the two of them up.
So, we invited both of them to go horseback riding, however Marty, who was not part of our social circle couldn’t understand why we were inviting him to ride horses, but once there he quickly figured out why he had been invited and the rest is history…it was a love that was meant to be as they have been together over 45 years.

Bev and Chris,
Condolences on your loss. I hope that the many wonderful memories of Marty are helping you through this difficult time. I feel very fortunate to have spent so much time with the Pinnock family growing up. The farm was such an interesting place, but even better were the people. My kids have heard many stories from that time - usually about the trouble Chris and I would get into - but also about the kindness of Marty and the time he took to teach us so many things. Learning to drive the tractor was a highlight, but the things I was too young to appreciate are what stand out as much now: learning the value of hard work, sharing knowledge, and somehow balancing work, family, and hobbies even when things seem too busy to keep up.
Thank you Marty for being a great, boss, bus driver, and neighbour.

I am sending my sincere condolences to Bev, Chris and the Pinnock family. I worked with Bev and Marty at the Stanley School and Marty and I retired at the same time, just 3 years ago. I always depended on Marty every fall to help me do the bus list for the K students. Marty knew where all the families, babysitters and grammies lived, and all the bus routes to get them there. He was a very caring and professional bus driver. He took us on many field trips and did bus safety demonstrations. When he was in the building, Marty would stop by the classroom to see how our day was going. Whether you were 5 or 55, Marty always made the time to give you a smile and a wave, or he stopped for a chat or a hug. The students loved seeing Marty and so did I. He was a wonderful friend and a great man! His family and our community will miss him greatly!

In the early 1980’s my brother and I planted several acres of balsam fur trees for Christmas trees and Marty was instrumental in helping a bunch of us wanna be Christmas tree growers learn the finer aspects of taking a seedling and making it a saleable product a few years later. He, his Uncle Dave and a few others from the Stanley area gave their time and knowledge freely to help others.
I later saw a fun sociable side of Marty and Bev as we began going on day wheeling trips in the back roads and forests of NB. Marty loved the adventure and leading a few couples on adventures to waterfalls, rock pillars, gorges etc. throughout NB.

Enjoyed raiding my mums plum tree for him every fall(always looked forward to them) and bringing extra cookies for him.
Very sorry Bev and family.

To all the Pinnock my since sympathies. I have so many great memories of MArty when I lived in Stanley. To Bev and Family this has to have been an awful shock. Too young to die but then we do not have any choice in that matter. Chris was jist a little boy when I left Stanle in 1988. You have great memories to keep him alive in your hearts. Sincerely Ed MacLaren

As our mothers, Doris and Leota did, Marty and I grew up together. For many years I thought we were cousins, we were so close. Marty was one of the best! He worked the farm with his father and brother Mike almost as if he were playing. He enjoyed all aspects of his life from cutting hay to playing his Guitar. I never saw him without a smile. He made friends easily and never spoke negatively of anyone. He will be sadly missed by all.
Rest easy my friend.

Marty was a neighbor to me, a bus driver at one time, and like family. I was privileged to grow up around the Pinnock clan and always welcomed with open arms. Marty gave me my first job working in the strawberry fields and when he drove me to school, he gave me the warning “honk” that he would be returning to remind me to get moving! He was kind and sincere, like all Pinnock men are. He was a pillar of the community and he will be missed by many. My sincerest condolences to all of you.

Q: What will you never forget about Martin?
A: Marty and Bev have always been one of the first people to volunteer for the Nashwaak Villa Christmas tree campaign, with a beautiful Christmas tree donated at the front door. He always had a smile and a story to tell me when he came in. I never met Marty when he wasn’t smiling.
Our sincere condolences to Bev and all of Marty’s family. Nick and Denice Dorcas

Although I have not known Marty for very long, I will miss him. He drove our children to school everyday faithfully and safely. I always enjoyed going out to his farm each Christmas to cut down a tree and have a chat. He was always interested in how our children were doing and what they were up to after they graduated. His interest and care will never be forgotten
