Obituary of Geraldine Grace Wood

Geraldine Grace Wood (Gerrie) passed away on February 22, 2025 at the age of 92 at Hospice House in Fredericton, NB. Born on February 25, 1932, Gerrie was a daughter of the late Ray and Jean (McLennan) MacBean.

Gerrie is survived by her children, Ray Wood (Mary Anne Wheeler), Peter Wood (Julie Tremblay), daughters Sharon Wood and Nancy Wood; grandchildren Laura Wood, Hannah Wood, Josh Wood (Grace Wood), Anna Rae Wood and Golden Doodle companion, Jada.

In addition to her parents, Gerrie was predeceased by her husband, Floyd Alban Wood; brothers Ian MacBean (Sandra) and Scott MacBean (Anita); and sisters Audrey Reeleder (George Delmar), Marion Wilding (Colin), and Myrtle MacBean.

Mom grew up on a farm in Taymouth and later moved to Fredericton during the war years. Following her graduation from Fredericton Business College, she married Floyd, the love of her life. Together, they raised a family in Nashwaaksis. In retirement, they spent many happy years running a strawberry u-pick farm in Lakeville Corner, NB. They then made a final move back to the north side of Fredericton.

Mom held administrative assistant positions at McAdam Avenue Elementary School, Park Street School, the Hart Shoe Co and others. She also was an active volunteer for various community organizations including the Nashwaaksis United Church, Lakeville Corner United Church, Lakeville Corner Women’s Institute and the Dr. Everett Chalmers Regional Hospital.

Mom was a caring and loving person who cherished her children and grandchildren. Mom had a wonderful sense of humour, loved to laugh and enjoyed a good story. She was fond of playing games such as ‘45s. In her youth she played basketball and later became a passionate fan of the Toronto Blue Jays.

The family expresses heartfelt gratitude to the wonderful staff at the Fredericton Hospice House, the exceptional care provided by the nurses of the New Brunswick Extra-Mural Program, for the house visits with Dr. Frenette, and the compassionate care offered by Alison MacDonald, Nurse Practitioner.

Arrangements have been entrusted to the care of York Funeral Home, 302 Brookside Drive, Fredericton. A Graveside Service will be held at Byno Cemetery in Lakeville Corner, NB at a later date.
