Obituary of Bernice LaPointe

It is with heavy hearts that the family of Bernice LaPointe (Despres) announces her passing on February 21, 2025, at the age of 91. 

Bernice was a woman of immense love, kindness, and resilience. She touched the lives of many, and her spirit will live on in the memories shared by those who were blessed to know her.

Predeceased by her loving husband, Roland, to whom she was married for nearly 64 years, and her son Ferdinand. In addition to her parents, she is also predeceased by her brothers, Alex, William, Adolph, Clifford, and Patric; Sister's Bertha Gibbons, Rita Timpani, Irene Roy and Dianne Thibodeau. 

Survived by her daughters Velma Powers (Herman) of North View, and Joanne Lynch (Gary) of Fredericton. Grandchildren Chris, Warren, Christina, Diana and Joanna, and Great Grandchildren Makayla, Hailey, Terry and Ally, all of Fredericton. Sister Lorraine LeBlanc (David) of Fredericton and Ferdinand (Madeline) of Gatineau, and several nieces and nephews. 

Bernice will be remembered as a sweet, kind, and gentle soul who would also do whatever was necessary to protect those she loved. Although she never sought the spotlight, people were drawn to Bernice’s warmth. Her twinkle-filled eyes and her sweet, crooked little smile were irresistible to all who knew her. Bernice had a quirky sense of humor that she maintained through life’s challenges and hardships, right up until the end. She taught those around her the true meaning of unconditional love and selflessness. 

Bernice leaves behind a legacy that reflects the very best qualities one could hope to be remembered for: strength of character, deep love for her family, kindness, generosity, acceptance, and humility.

Her love and influence will continue to resonate in the hearts of all those she touched.

A Funeral Mass will be held at St. Dunstan’s Catholic Church, 120 Regent Street, Fredericton, NB on Tuesday, February 25, 2025 at 11am with Father Suresh Savariraj officiating. Interment will take place at St. Bridget’s Catholic Cemetery, Hardwood Ridge, NB at a later date. Remembrances may be made to the SPCA, Alzheimer’s Society or to a charity of the donor’s choice.
