Obituary of Clifton George Kingston Thorne

Please share a memory of Clifton to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of a loving husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather, brother, brother-in-law, uncle and friend. Clifton Thorne passed away at the age of 83 at Dr. Everett Chalmers Regional Hospital on Saturday, January 25, 2025, 7 days after suffering a stroke.

Clifton was born on May 9th, 1941, to Clifton Thorne Sr. and Marie (Kingston) Thorne in Fredericton, NB. He was the oldest of 9 children. In 1958, Deanie Thorne (Goodine) caught his eye, and they married in July of 1959 and had four children plus they took under their wings and considered them daughters, Susan MacDonald and Brenda Thorne (Goodine).

He was a hardworking man and embraced life with vigour, enthusiasm, and had a passion for heavy equipment. He worked until his early 70’s and retired from his employer Paul Miles. A job he truly loved. Clifton also had an immense passion for buying and selling. He could never turn down a good deal, knowing he could flip it and make a buck or two.

He provided a loving home for his family. He loved to go camping and sit around the campfire. He and Deanie found their oasis in 1988 when they purchased lake front property in Lake George, NB. They spent many wonderful years at the lake, sitting around the campfire, playing cards and listening to country music. He loved his music.

He was a story and joke teller and if you were coming to visit you had to be prepared to stay awhile. You may have heard some over and over but always sounded just as good the second time. All stories ended with “True Story”. He loved organizing, viewing and sharing his prized photos. His number one album was that of mom, he reminded her always how good looking she was and still is. She was his everything.

He was an amazing father, grandfather and great grandfather, who was always welcoming and accepting of all who entered the family over the years. He was cherished and will be dearly missed.

He is survived by his loving wife Deanie; four children and their families, Jimmy (Carolyn), Judy (Paul), Janet (Hugh), Jo-Anne; grandchildren, Jodi (Pete), Lesley, Ryan, Alicia (Alex), Ashlee, Amy, Olivia, Hannah, Meaghan, and predeceased by his grandson, Bradlee; great grandchildren, Kaleob, Lilia, Jayne, Amelia, Gracie and JJ.

He is also survived by his brothers and sisters, Mary (Roger), Joseph (Debbie), Bobby (Belinda) Chris (Brenda), Patty (Mort); along with several nieces and nephews; and special friends, Wilf Prescott and Shawn Anderson.

He was predeceased by brothers, Edward and David; and sister, Ramona.

Arrangements have been entrusted to York Funeral Home, 302 Brookside Drive, Fredericton. A celebration of life will be held at a later date. Personal condolences may be offered through www.yorkfh.com
